Payment and Billing
Costs for Classes and Outings
- Classes: Tuition for each 12-week quarter at Seattle Children’s Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center ranges from $360 to $540. Costs depend on class topic, length and number of classes.
- Outings: We may visit museums or coffee shops, swim at a pool, pick berries or pumpkins, ride ferries, bike or hike. Costs vary based on event length and ticket price. (All outings have a base cost; some outings have an additional ticket price, and others don’t).
- See our classes and outings page for descriptions and prices.
- Our classes and other activities are open to people who have finished our intake process.
Payment and Scholarships
Tuition for classes is due on the first day of the quarter. If you enroll after the quarter starts, payment is due before your first class. We accept payment by:
- Credit card
- Debit card
- Electronic check (e-check)
- Paper check
- Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) respite hours
When you register for classes, we will ask you to choose a payment method and provide payment details. If you register online, you will put this information into the iClass registration system that we use.
We offer scholarships to families with financial need who could benefit from our classes and programs.
“With the financial help of the scholarship, my son is so excited to be able to participate, especially in drama and music. Isaac has become so much more joyful!”

DDA payment
We welcome families who want to pay for classes or activities with DDA respite hours.
- To help us plan, please note DDA respite hours as your preferred form of payment on your intake form. Email us for more information.
- Families who use respite hours must commit to the whole quarter of that class and sign a DDA respite policy agreement. See DDA Respite Policies (PDF).
- If you do not have enough DDA respite hours to pay for all your classes in a quarter, you will need to pay for the rest of the quarter. We will charge the credit or debit card or use the e-check banking information you provided when you registered. You also have the option to pay by paper check.
- Please make sure you are dropped off and picked up no more than 15 minutes before class starts and after it ends. If you are here earlier or you stay later, we have to bill respite hours since you are at our center and under our supervision.

Applying for scholarships
The Michael Slater Scholarship Fund is funded by our generous supporters. It was named in honor of a former Alyssa Burnett Center student.
To be eligible, participants must:
- Complete the Alyssa Burnett Center intake process. Our intake process helps decide if our classes and activities are a good fit for you and which classes are best.
- Fill out the scholarship application to show your financial need and how our classes and events may benefit you. Provide as much detail as you can.
Here is more about how the scholarship program works:
- There is a deadline for scholarship applications each quarter. Please call us at 425-488-6173 or email us if you aren’t sure of the deadline.
- Families must reapply for a scholarship each quarter.
- All information you provide will be confidential. We will only share it with the scholarship committee.
- The number of classes and activities covered by a scholarship will depend on a family’s need.
- The scholarship committee meets each quarter to review applications. We grant most scholarships 2 weeks before the quarter starts. If we grant your request, we will email you 2 weeks before the quarter starts.
- Some funds may be available for outings and intake fees, as well as classes for participants who enroll during the quarter.
- The number of scholarships is limited. If you do not receive a scholarship, please apply for a future quarter.
Questions? Please call us at 425-488-6173 or email us.
-
Grace period to decide if a class is a fit
The first 2 weeks of the quarter are a grace period to decide if the class is a good fit. If you drop a class during the grace period, we will refund the tuition you paid for the rest of the quarter. After the grace period, you are responsible for the full quarter’s tuition if you drop the class for any reason. Please call us at 425-488-6173 to discuss any concerns.
-
Enrolling during the quarter
Here’s how we handle payment if you enroll during the quarter:
- If you are paying with a credit card, debit card, e-check or paper check, we will charge you for the classes remaining in the quarter. Payment is due before you attend your first class.
- If you are paying with DDA respite hours, we will bill your case manager based on the classes and activities you attend.
Attendance
Our classes are designed to build on skills learned each week and to promote social connections among a set group of peers. To get the full benefit, it is important for you to come to class as often as you can.
For a class absence to be excused, you must call 425-488-6173 or email us within 24 hours after the class to discuss your absence. Otherwise, your absence will be unexcused (no matter the reason), and you will not be eligible for a refund.
For Friday outings, we will excuse an absence and will not charge you if you call or email by Thursday at noon to let us know you cannot come.
-
Excused absences
- Private-pay families may have 3 excused absences per class, per quarter.
- Any more class absences will be unexcused, no matter the reason, unless you provide a doctor’s note.
- To request a refund for an excused absence, contact the program manager at 425-488-6173 or by email within 24 hours after the class.
- Families using DDA hours are not charged for excused absences. We also do not bill DDA for these absences. See DDA Respite Policies (PDF).
Reasons for excused absences:
- The participant has an illness that can spread to others (such as uncontrolled runny nose, coughing, sneezing, sore throat, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, measles, shingles, bed bugs or lice).
- The participant is having seizures or another serious medical issue (such as recovering from surgery).
- The participant is having a medical emergency.
- The participant has DART/Access transportation issues.
- The participant has behaviors that pose a risk to self or others — these may be excused if approved by our behavior analyst. If behavior problems are causing you to miss class often, we may ask you and your family to meet with our behavior analyst to talk about strategies to help.
-
Unexcused absences
- Private-pay families do not receive a refund for unexcused class absences.
- Families using DDA hours are not charged for unexcused absences. We also do not bill DDA for these absences. See DDA Respite Policies (PDF).
Examples of reasons an absence would not be excused:
- Travel or vacation
- Dentist or doctor appointment (unless for an illness that is excused)
- No caregiver available to come with you (for participants who need a caregiver)
- Issues with private transportation
An absence will be unexcused, no matter the reason, if you do not call 425-488-6173 or email us within 24 hours after the class about your absence. For Friday absences, please leave a voicemail or send an email within 24 hours, and we will get it on Monday.
