  • Biography

    Dr. Margaret Sibley is a clinical psychologist at Seattle Children's Hospital and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

    Dr. Sibley received her PhD in clinical psychology in 2012 from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed her clinical internship at the Florida International University, Center for Children and Families. Dr. Sibley’s work focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in adolescents and young adults, building motivation and executive function skills in teenagers, and parenting teenagers and young adults with ADHD. In 2016 she published a comprehensive guide (Guilford Press) to delivering therapy to adolescents with ADHD (The STAND Program: Supporting Teens’ Autonomy Daily). Dr. Sibley’s clinical work combines Motivational Interviewing and organization skills training to support teen with ADHD and their parents. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), Professional Advisory Board for Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), and the editorial boards for leading scientific journals that include the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. 

    Dr. Sibley has co-authored over 75 scientific papers on ADHD in adolescence and young adulthood. She has received research funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, the Institute of Education Sciences, the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation, and the American Psychological Foundation. Her research has been recognized by (CHADD), the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), and the American Psychological Association, as well as several other local organizations.

    Research Description

    Dr. Sibley’s research involves finding ways to export effective ADHD treatments into real world settings such as schools and community clinics. Her team is currently evaluating STRIPES, which teaches academically successful high school students to deliver school-based interventions to peers with ADHD. She also is currently partnering with community mental health agencies to modify STAND for community settings and local schools to create a summer orientation to high school for students at risk for a shaky transition to ninth grade.
