  • Biography

    Dr. Fernandez is an assistant professor at the University of Washington and Pediatric Urologist at Seattle Children’s Hospital. He obtained his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota Colombia.

    His surgical and urological training was completed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana where he graduated as a Urologist. He also graduated cum laude and received a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Genetics.

    Dr. Fernandez obtained his pediatric urology title from the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto where he also completed a 1-year Post-Doctoral position.

    He is the current director of Robotic Minimally Invasive Surgery at Seattle Children's

    Clinical Interests

    Dr. Fernandez treats any conditions that affect the genitourinary tract. His fluency in Spanish allows him to provide patient care in this language. 

    He does have special interest in:

    1. Management of complex reconstructive surgeries using minimally invasive robot-assisted and laparoscopic surgery.  

    2. Hypospadias. 

    3. Kidney Stones. 

    5. Renal transplantation

     

    Research Description

    Dr. Fernandez has special research interest in combining artificial intelligence technologies with clinical and genetic phenotyping variables to improve patient care and generate novel predictive surgical outcome variables 

    Another area of interest is the burden of disease of urological congenital anomalies in South-America and how novel technologies can impact patient care in this region.
