Epic Training
If you are in a residency or subspecialty fellowship program based at Seattle Children’s, you will need to complete Epic training that is department-specific and different from the curriculum listed below. Please contact your program coordinator(s) for additional information, enrollment, etc.
In order to be granted access to Epic you must first complete required training by following the steps below.
- If you have not yet done so, get your Seattle Children’s login information as instructed by your training coordinator.
- If you have not already registered your Okta Verify app, follow the instructions on the Web Based Training page of this site.
- If you encounter technical issues, please call our Service Desk at 206-987-1111. You will need two of the following when you call:
- Your Seattle Children’s username
- Your Seattle Children’s badge number
- Your Okta username
- Your manager’s name according to Seattle Children’s Human Resources Department:
- Residents and Fellows: Chris Pendergrass, GME Associate Director
- Medical Students: Sara Fear, Medical Student and WWAMI Program Manager
Epic and Other Clinical Apps on Your Mobile Device
Providers can access Epic and other mobile apps (including Haiku, Canto and M*Modal) and electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) on their mobile devices.
It is recommended that you install and configure the apps before your rotation starts. Instructions for downloading, FAQs, etc., can be found here.

Training: What do you need to do?
- In the sections below, identify the course that contains the list of videos you need to watch and the corresponding End User Proficiency Assessment (EUPA) that pertains to your current role and/or rotation.
- If you are unsure about which course you should complete, please consult the Seattle Children’s service with which you are rotating or providing jeopardy coverage.
- If you are rotating on back-to-back inpatient and Emergency Department services, you will need to view the videos contained in both courses.
- You only need to watch a video once.
- Open Grow@SC and log on with your Seattle Children’s Okta information if prompted.
- In the portal, locate the Access Your Training section under Your Training To-Dos and then select Open Curriculum next to Epic for External Graduate and Medical Student Education.
- If you do not see this curriculum listed, you can search for it in the upper right via the magnifying glass.
- Please note that if you are struggling with Epic terms or details referenced in the videos, you can refer to the Prerequisite eLearning Courses (Recommended) section for some primers.
- The list of eLearnings associated with each course is listed at the bottom of this page.
- On the left, click Virtual Pre-Recorded Training (Required).
- Click Launch next to each video listed in the course you identified previously and ignore the rest.
- After watching the videos, navigate to the Post-Class Assessment via the menu on the left and find the EUPA that corresponds to the course.
- Click Launch Test and successfully pass the EUPA.
- EMR access will be granted by the IT Security team.
- If you have passed the EUPA, your rotation has started and you don’t have access to Epic, please call the Service Desk at 206-987-1111.
