Seattle Children's Health Equity and Anti-Racism Action Plan March Quarterly Progress Report

A Message From Seattle Children’s Executive Leadership Team

Today, Seattle Children’s is releasing the second Health Equity and Anti-Racism Action Plan (Action Plan) quarterly report, an important milestone during a week where we also celebrate the opening of the OBCC Othello Clinic with the OBCC team and community. Seattle Children’s is committed to becoming a health equity leader and anti-racist organization, and to sharing this journey publicly and transparently. The report provides both updates and challenges on the progress being made on Action Plan recommendations.

Two highlights of this quarter’s report include data and feedback provided by community members, parents and caregivers and how it is being used to help shape Action Plan priorities. The report also includes an update on the Behavioral Response Project (formerly Abolish Code Purple). Comprised of patients, families, community and workforce members, the Behavioral Response Project team continues their work to transform Seattle Children’s behavioral response system into one that is equitable, anti-racist and designed to eliminate disparities.

While the Action Plan guides our efforts to combat racism and dismantle systemic inequities within pediatric healthcare, it is through these quarterly reports that the ongoing work of many dedicated patients, families, workforce and community members is reflected.

Meaningful, lasting culture change takes time, commitment and resolve. Anti-racism work is not always comfortable, and we are grateful to everyone connected to our community who is willing to embrace discomfort to move this critical work forward.

We hope as you read this update you are inspired to join in our work to transform our culture and become the anti-racist organization we aspire to be.
