Standing Together Against Hate
3.19.21
A letter from Seattle Children’s Leadership team addressing increasing acts of violence, xenophobia and hate against Asian and Pacific Islander communities, and this week’s shootings in the Atlanta area.
We have witnessed increasing acts of violence, xenophobia and hate against Asian and Pacific Islander communities. This week’s shootings in the Atlanta area, which killed eight people, including six Asian women, are tragic and heartbreaking and highlight the continued racism toward the Asian community. We empathize that there is a great deal of fear and pain in the Asian and Pacific Islander communities.
Members of our team have experienced anti-Asian racism and discrimination in the Seattle area. While the situation in Atlanta continues to unfold, and as we learn more about our team members’ experiences, what we know is that we stand together with the Asian community and our workforce. Seattle Children’s condemns any acts of hate, xenophobia or violence and any form of racial discrimination. We want you to know – especially our workforce members most impacted by violence and discrimination and our workforce members in Georgia – that discrimination and racism have no place at Seattle Children’s or in our society.
Here are some resources for action and support:

Our focus remains on hope, not hate, and creating safe, inclusive spaces for our workforce, patients and families. We must continue to be uniters and treat others with dignity and respect. As we continue to prioritize anti-racism, we ask for your commitment to support our team and our community through these challenging times.
Sincerely,
Seattle Children’s Executive Leadership Team
