Nursing Research Grant Program

The Nursing Research Grant Program is intended to support and encourage the research career development of nurses as clinical investigators at Seattle Children's. The program supports nurses of all levels of research experience. Nurses and others experienced in research are available to provide mentorship support for those who would like to apply for funds to support research, but lack experience.

Award Details

Funding

  • Amount awarded will be a maximum of $10,000. Payment of indirect costs is not allowed. Projects may be up to two years in length.
  • Up to six projects are expected to be funded annually.

Allowable costs

  • Personnel and/or investigator salary
  • Supplies and research equipment
  • Expenses such as fees for core facilities and services, including biostatistics, research staff support, laboratory studies, translation, interpretation, etc.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be a Seattle Children's nurse working in any areas of the hospital including inpatient, ambulatory and/or regional clinics. Direct care staff, leadership and advanced practice nurses are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants who are novice researchers must identify a mentor. The nursing research committee chair can assist in identifying a mentor, if needed.

Application Completion

  1. Download and complete the following documents:  
  2. Meet with Elaine Walsh at least four weeks prior to the application deadline for guidance and mentoring. 
  3. After meeting with Elaine Walsh, request a biostatistics study design consultation for your application. Applicants must contact Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Analytics in Research (BEAR) at least six weeks in advance of the application deadline. Indicate that it is a nursing project in your request.

Application Submission

  1. Email completed application materials as one single PDF or Word document to the Nursing Research Grant Program by the application due date.
  2. Submissions will be reviewed and applicants notified of award status within one month of the application deadline.
  3. Applicants that are not awarded funding may reapply for future funding.
