About Us
A New Model for Science-Industry Partnerships
The Office of Science-Industry Partnerships aims to partner with companies to bring Seattle Children’s Research Institute’s discoveries to market and improve the lives of children and families. The research institute is engaged in more than 500 active studies, including many that could lead to innovative drugs, devices, diagnostics and healthcare IT solutions.
We understand that, for many diseases and disorders, the pediatric population is so small that pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies have little monetary incentive to invest in research, development and marketing of pediatric treatments and products. Our goal is to overcome this through partnerships that minimize companies’ investment and risk.
Our collaborations and key partnerships bring together the joint funding, research infrastructure, expertise and clinical samples to conduct the pre-clinical and early-stage clinical research necessary to find treatments that would be ignored by traditional for-profit drug ventures. We see this as a revolutionary business model that will accelerate progress toward better treatments for children.
